My Memory Ain’t What It Used To Be – Nick Oshiro

The Truth

This has been one of the hardest years of my life. I had to hit a bottom, some might say. I have been stretched to my limits mentally, physically and spiritually. I’ve screamed at the sky begging for answers, walked hundreds of miles in circles and have helped others with fervor, to abandon myself. It has been a rough ride at sea, lamenting in the calamity. There is one thing for sure, I know nothing and on a daily basis, try to act,  like a guy who trusts in God.

Love

What does love mean? I think it’s an action word, based on spiritual principles. It’s setting myself aside and thinking of you. It’s helping you get closer to God, regardless of how it affects me. Love is service, not because I feel like it, but because I love you…

Selfishness

We all have it! It’s a hard one to admit and the truth is, that hardly anyone of us will be able to see it in our lives. I believe it to be a spiritual sickness. When I’m obsessed with me and my feelings, it’s hard to consider yours. I think selfishness is growing at an astronomical rate and seems to be the plague of the 21st century. Selfishness is the crux of all failed relationships. I hate to admit, but I’m extremely selfish. I have become so aware of it, witnessing it’s power to destroy, that I have turned to the creator of worlds to help me battle it. I’m not sure I’ll ever be unselfish enough, but maybe one day, my actions will speak louder than my words.

Final Analysis

I’ve learned that my loneliness can only be cured by community and what I’m doing for them. A hard lesson learned, but my feelings mean little, what I’m doing means everything. Staring at my own life and what it lacks, hurts me and the people I love. That the answers to my questions, will be revealed in hindsight. My great hope is that the fear will become less and the love will grow. I’ll be in the trenches abandoning me, praying to become, the man I want to be…

Lyrics

It must have been a mountain standing in our way
Or some small misunderstanding we talked about too late
Was it the kitchen or the bedroom where we let a good thing go?
Was it destined dreams, or space we needed? Oh, I don’t know
Baby
Lately my memory
Ain’t what it used to be
At all
It’s crazy
But holding you close to me
Seeing you smile at me
Is all that I recall
‘Cause, baby, it don’t matter how hard I try
I still can’t remember why we said goodbye
Maybe time’s just playing
Tricks on me these days
Or maybe these old feelings
Never went away
‘Cause all that I remember
Is that I’m still in love with you
And if I’m losing my mind, I hope
You are too
Baby
Lately my memory
Ain’t what it used to be
At all
It’s crazy
But holding you close to me
Seeing you smile at me
Is all that I recall
‘Cause, baby, it don’t matter how hard I try
I still can’t remember why we said goodbye, goodbye
It’s crazy
But holding you close to me
Seeing you smile at me
Is all that I recall
‘Cause, baby, it don’t matter how hard I try
I still can’t remember why we said goodbye, why we said goodbye
Why did we say goodbye?
